Quality Assurance Procedures

Each partner institution will fully apply its own quality assurance system according to its national rules. The University of Oviedo manages the quality assurance through its Technical Quality Unit. This unit evaluates the study programme, the teaching and the services, stimulating the participation in various programmes of ANECA (Agencia Nacional de Evaluación de la Calidad y Acreditación), the Spanish agency for evaluation and accreditation.

The Office for Evaluation and Quality (GAQ – Gabinete de Avaliação e Qualidade) at the University of Algarve is the body responsible for promotion of quality education within the University of Algarve, with reference to the national legislation and the principles agreed at European Level through the European Standards and Guidelines. The main means of the quality control will include survey of the teaching / learning applied to students and faculty, basic survey of the career, end of course survey, etc.

The Council for Evaluation and Quality is the body responsible for the establishment of the mechanisms of the Polytechnic Institute of Santarem for regular self-assessment of the performance of the Institute, its units, as well as the scientific and educational activities subject to national evaluation and accreditation.

The areas of assessment include the units and the management; the courses; the science departments; the procedures for teaching; the laboratories engaged in the scientific activity, educational activity or community support; the services and the impact the Institute has in the community, especially for the graduates' employability and contribution to technological innovation processes.

An International Advisory Board (IAB) must evaluate the Scientific Quality and the way of teaching the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master degree in Emergency and Critical Care, giving and independent reference of the programme according the national and international regulations.

The members of the IAB are proposed by the partner institutions and named by the committee of the consortium, the IAB will be formed by:

  • Ph.D. Liliana Angel Vargas, International Relationships Coordinator at the Rio de Janeiro Federal University – UNIRIO and member of the Tordesillas Group of Nursing. PRESIDENT
  • Prof. Marianne Pitkäjärvi, Senior Lecturer at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Helsinki, Finland. MEMBER
  • MSc. Alejandra Guerrero Tellez. EMJMD NURSING first edition. SECRETARY
  • Representative of the students of the batch. MEMBER

The IAB will meet once a year. The Board shall act independently and may request partners or associated members to provide with any information that might be relevant to the quality assessment of the course.

The IAB can be involved in the diffusion of the master programme, advice on its scientific and industry relevance, knowledge and skills, supervise the preparation of the coordinator's report or other documents.

The Associated Partners providing internships for Erasmus Mundus Master Course students shall complete a questionnaire for each student at the end of their training period assessing participation and integration in the company/institution, fulfilment of the appointed tasks, knowledge and abilities. Each associated member will also attach a quality feedback form, based on their experience of the hosted interns, their level of preparedness and eventual suggestions to improve their readiness to achieve the set goals, as perceived from the patient-care point of view.

The questionnaires for the partner institutions will be delivered to the Partner Coordinators of the Consortium Institutions upon completion of each practicum, and then forwarded to the Consortium Coordinator. The Consortium Coordinator will share relevant feedback with all Partner Coordinators upon completion of every semester and shall include a summary of results in the corresponding Coordinator's Quality Assessment Report.

Information gathered from students after their completion of the master programme is valuable to truly assess master's employment policy and academic tendencies.

For this purpose, in the "Alumni" section of the EMJMD NURSING website registered alumni students will be able to provide information about their current employment, position, assignments, estimation if they actively use the expertise obtained during the master course and what knowledge or skills are required for the position but where not achieved during the master course, as well as leave comments and suggestions.

Data from the Alumni Quality Assessment shall be gathered by the Coordinator and valuable suggestions shall be included in the Quality Assessment Report.

Some of the Partner Universities count with the presence of a University Ombudsman whose actions are not subject to the imperative mandate of any university authority and regulated on the basis of independence, autonomy, objectiveness and confidentiality. Duties include handling complaints from members of the university community, mediate in disagreements, ensure compliance to rules and regulations and present an annual report to the University Senate.
